    Taste of Portugal at QVM 12th June 2022,  Queen Victoria Market

 

 Portugal Day  is proudly celebrated all over the world, celebrating  the Portuguese language  and culture that our ancestors so proudly spread  throughout the world- to Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Guine-Bissau, East Timor, Macau and other parts of Africa and Asia.  The  Taste Of Portugal Festival is held annually in the city of Melbourne to coincide with the Portuguese National day. This event showcases Portuguese culture, cuisine, history and tourism with lively performances of traditional music and dance, cultural and tourism displays and gourmet Portuguese foods and beverages available for purchase. It has the support of the City of Melbourne, the Victorian Multicultural Commission and several Portuguese businesses and associations of the state of Victoria and has been attended by up to 20,000 people.

 

The Taste of Portugal unites all the Portuguese speaking communities, including Portugal, Brazil and East Timor, in a vibrant cultural celebration.  The event caters for all ages with Portuguese  street food and beverages available for purchase, Portuguese merchandise for sale, samba and Latin dance classes, tourism and cultural displays, children's art exhibition, children's activities and book readings, culinary demonstrations, and a diverse entertainment program with music and dance from Portugal, Brazil and East Timor. At this event you can taste authentic  Portuguese chicken, purchase Portuguese jewellery  and  home wares , watch a Portuguese chorizo making demonstration, view the tourism spots of Portugal, find out where to learn the Portuguese language or savour a fresh Portuguese custard tart made on-site ... .A family-friendly day of fun, food and entertainment!

 

HOW TO GET TO THE TASTE OF PORTUGAL at QVM - COME BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT OR CYCLE!

 

A short walk from the City centre, Queen Victoria Market is bounded by Peel, Franklin, Victoria & Elizabeth Streets.

By Tram: The Market is located within the free tram zone. Take the 19, 57 or 59 to Stop 7, Elizabeth St or Tram 58 to Stop 9, Peel St.

By Train: Only a 7 minute walk from Melbourne Central and Flagstaff Stations. Walk north along Elizabeth or William Street.

By Bike: There is free bike parking in and around the Market. Major bike lanes leading to the Market run along Royal Parade and Victoria Street.
